I recently had the opportunity to cut a quick video for some fun guys, the Festive People. A friend of mine, John Lane, texted and asked if I would cut this for them. The video needed to be finished pretty quick, go figure as most of the projects I get have a fast turn around.
The shoot was a pretty simple setup, 2 iPhones locked off and a DSLR roaming around looking for interesting shots. I received the footage via WeTransfer and placed them in my projects folder on Dropbox. I chose to cut in Premiere for this one, for practice and convenience. I synced everything into a quick multicam sequence, did a pass with the live edit, then another couple passes at it to tidy things up, then a quick color pass and rendered it out to send to John.
I have been doing lots of After Effects and various design projects recently so it had been a while since I have actually had a project to edit. I forgot how much I enjoy editing once I get into the groove of things. So thanks to John for asking me to cut this for you guys. I think the multi cam helped me jump right in and get a rough pass in the timeline very quickly which gave me a sense of accomplishment and momentum. Then it’s just on to slipping edits around to tidy up. I think I was able to get the entire thing edited in a little over 2 hours, which was exiting as it has been almost a year since I have been in the editor’s chair. The last time was Turn to Stone I believe. And it’s been a few more years since I’ve worked on any music video style stuff, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
