As an artist, a hobby of mine is to take my old ideas and techniques and revisit them years later just to see what happens.
In 2005-2006 I spent a great deal of time on a visual effects shot for a superhero short film “War of the Heroes” here is an attempt a decade later to recreate the same effect. I don’t think it’s fair to say that the effect is better or worse, but it was fun to work through and run into familiar problems and approach them with a different set of experiences behind me.
Here’s another. I don’t have any of the old images handy, I’m sure if I did some digging I’d find some though. Again for fun, I would try to make as much as I could from scratch in After Effects. This one is the same tools I used back in the day: Fractal Noise and CC Sphere. (Actually I don’t remember if CC Sphere was around then but I would have used an equivalent.) I noticed that working with larger resolutions has helped me add more detail to the shots without it getting lost or fuzzy. How did we ever make things in DV?
And yet another, with no old time reference. I would make things I wanted out of the junk I had around me. Nowadays I buy additional junk to extend my reaches.
